I hope you all have a GRATEFUL Fourth of July.
The Fourth of July is a great time for picnics, families, outings to the beach and other activities. While we are all enjoying another day off of work let’s not forget what the Fourth is all about.
There will be no picnics, parades or bands playing for some men and women this year. They are busy working to give that gift to you.
There will be families this year on the Fourth that are separated. For some, the separation is forever.
This Fourth of July there will be some men and women who will be in the jungles and deserts, on mountaintops or out to sea.
This year there will be some men and women who will not be able to march in the parade because they have no legs. They will see no spectacular fireworks because they have no eyes. They will not be able to wave the flag because they have no arms. They paid the price.
Because of these brave men and women who serve now and served in the past, we have so many things for which to be grateful.
Sunday, I can all chose whatever church I want to attend or stay home.
I can take out a full page ad lambasting the highest office of my country if I choose.
If you threaten my life or my family’s life, I have a piece of paper that says I can shoot you dead in your tracks.
I can go for a walk in the countryside and down most city streets without fear.
I am living out loud.
There are a lot of things wrong with this country. We have strayed far from where we started.
BUT, there are so many things right with this country. Everyday people are dying to come to this country. To be a part of the greatest nation offering the biggest opportunities and dreams.
Have the picnics and spend time with your families. Go to the parades and wave the American flag as high and hard as you can. Most of all be GRATEFUL. Extend your “thanks” to the men, women and families of those who serve now and have served in the past.
Celebrate your freedom that was painfully expensive. Let’s not ever take it for granted.
