We are short one BEB tonight.
One of our best girls somehow fell onto the cement edge of a
free stall. She landed right on her stomach area.
She couldn’t get up.
Our wonderful herdsman gave her a shot for pain and they
lifted her in a bucket and put her in the hospital pen.
Within the hour she died.
She was one of our good producers – 120 pounds a day.
When 1600 pounds fall, something’s got to give.
Our herdsman did an autopsy and found out she had HBS – hemorrhagic
bowel syndrome. Basically, the injury caused her intestines to rip and she bled
to death.
It was just one of those freaky things that happens every now
and then.
