Well, his knee/elbow was out of the joint when he was born and kept wobbling around. It wouldn't stay in place. So for a few days he wore this contraption while he was standing up and being fed.
Also his ankles were weak - sometimes happens and then we put these braces on to help shore them up. Eventually the ankle strengthens and then the brace comes off.
Eventually his knee/elbow got stronger.
Now the swelling is down on his ankle. In a few days we will lance it - there is an abscess forming.
So while we tried recently to save a few premature calves and failed (check out A Farm Wife face book page) we do have successful results.
And, that is how it is on the farm. We work hard to keep our animals healthy and alive. And, on the farm we have times where life wins and other times when death has the victory.
