PROOF - Spring is coming!

My day started like most everyone else. I had plans.

I decided I was going to go to a coffee shop to write. I needed to leave home and all the distractions to get some writing goals accomplished.

I fed the dog and cat. I gave Little BS his bottle, changed his diaper and put him in his pen.

For those who don’t know, before you call child protective services, Little BS is a lamb. Black Sheep. He belongs to Son #2 and family. We are sheep sitting while they are on vacation. Little BS is too small to be alone in the cold barn.

Back on track here.

As I headed out the door I made a quick phone call which resulted in a short meeting that needed to be met.

Meeting done – check.

But, it’s so sunny and nice I thought I needed a trip to Lake Michigan. I mean for crying out loud one of the five great lakes is in my back yard and I haven’t taken the time to enjoy it yet this year.

Well, on the way I must stop at Anchorage Yacht Sales and see my son. By the way, that is his business and he has some dandy floatage material to choose.

Onward to the Lake. To the beach I went. Beautiful, cold, windy but relaxing. I watched the waves roll in and slide back out. Soon my breathing matched the flow of the waves and the tension jammed in my shoulders slid out into the lake.

The two basic colors at the beach this time of the year were sand and water. The weeds were the same color as the sand. The water and sky were shades from the same family. It was a gorgeous contrast.

As I drove through the parking lot and along the lakeshore I was reminded that just beneath that brown is green. Life giving green is waiting for permission to break through. Yes, there is a spring in our future. I knew it, the calendar knew it, we all knew it, we just needed proof.

There were hints all along the way home.

The big boats at the marina that are all wrapped tight like a swaddled baby were begging to be let loose.

The sunshine was doing its best to make me believe.

Then the weather came on the radio. Snow and mixed rain was coming.

I cursed the radio – well not out loud at least.

I stopped at my original destination and filled up on caffeine. “If I drink enough of that chocolate laden caffeine I might feel good enough to not miss spring” was my thought. I think I was deceived from the lack of Vitamin D.

Once the heartburn hit, it was time to leave.

After I arrived home and was settled in the office discontentment descended. Dang it! Spring where are you?

Light bulb moment.

“There has got to be spring in the greenhouses. Go! Head west young (or not so young) woman. Follow your quest for the fragrance of the blossoms. Give in to your desire to feel warmth on your face (that doesn’t come from a space heater). Leave your cares behind and prance in the posies.” spoke the Great Light Bulb.

I grabbed my keys, left little BS lazing in the sun and went for my quest of spring.

I found it! At a local greenhouse. Bless their hearts. It’s way better than Prozac and it was FREE.

Enjoy the proof. We will not be denied. Spring will arrive – it has to – otherwise what will happen with all this fabulous foliage?
