How to Freeze Green Beans

When my kids were younger I canned and froze veggies. It was always a big deal because I never tackled the job unless I had mountains of the vegetable to freeze. I thought I needed a bunch to make it worth my while.

Nowadays, I quickly freeze whatever amount I have. Fresh and quick from the garden.

I thought there might be some readers that would be interested in freezing but feel like it would be too hard or don't know how to do it.

Following is very simple directions.

Cut or snap the ends off the beans. If you want you can cut them into bite sized pieces. I left them whole thinking the less cutting, maybe the fresher they may stay.

Bring a large pan of water to boil.

Dump beans in boiling water. Make sure you have enough room that all the beans are submersed.

Fill a large bowl full of water and ice.

Bring the beans back to a boil and boil one minute.

Dump beans into the ice water. Add cold water to cover beans.

Drain the beans and add more cold water.

Drain the beans.

Bag the beans or put them in other freezer containers and put in freezer.
Simple as that.

When it's time to use them, defrost and steam until tender.
