This recipe came from my neighbor while growing up. They called it Dinner on a Bun. Well, over the years with the four sons it has been tweaked and now dubbed Goop on Bread.
I promise this will become one of your family's favorites. It is delish.
Let's get started:
Pre-heat oven to 350 |
2 lbs. of fresh farm grown ground beef. |
Add 3/4 C bread crumbs. This is another recipe I just throw together, so I am trying my best to give the right amounts. |
Chopped onion. |
About 1 -2 t of salt, 1/2 - 1 t pepper and 3 T mustard. |
Just dump everything in a bowl. |
Add 1 egg. |
About 2 - 5 ounces of milk - just enough to keep the mixture together. |
1 - 2 C shredded cheddar cheese. |
Mix thoroughly. |
1 loaf of french bread. |
Slice on the diagonal - that gives a little more surface area. |
Spoon the burger mixture onto the bread slices and bake in oven until meat is done - about 1/2 hour. |
After the burger is cooked, add cheese slices and slide back into the oven for about 5 minutes until cheese melts. |
