I was in Ohio with my granddaughters on a shopping trip (blog coming about that) and we came across this store in the South Park Mall in Strongsville.
We went into the store and couldn’t believe what we saw. We were appalled.
Puppies and cats in oversized aquariums and in small “pens”.
They used shavings as bedding which I’m not sure that’s the best to use – I can’t really speak of that other than the fact it was sticking all over them.
Many of the puppies that you could reach, and touch just laid there. Some followed you around just waiting for attention.
They looked depressed and hopeless.
I couldn’t see any physical issues just so pathetic.
I asked one of the employees there “You take them out at night, right?” I was thinking surely, they are placed in a better more spacious area. His answer, “No they stay here all night.”
I had to walk out – in tears. My two granddaughters, age 17, came out a few minutes later in tears also. Our conversation was basically – How can they do this? What can we do? This is awful!
Now I know I am poking the bear with my title.
Farmers like us are slammed all the time by extreme animal activists. I can speak to the care of our cows. They are first on the list for everything. They are cared for and treated well. They are fed, watered, watched for illnesses. They are spoken to never beat. Most farms are the same.
Yet, these groups come after farmers all the time.
I noticed when we went on the convoy several years back out west delivering products to the farmers and ranchers devastated by the floods not a single animal activist stood with us nor helped us.
Here is a perfect way for them to put their money where their mouth is.
What can be done about this? I have no clue. I just couldn’t not address it.
